"Come fly with me. Lets fly, lets fly, lets fly " Frank Sinatra
Last week saw the return of business trips back to Dusseldorf again. Avid readers following my random ridiculous rants will recall I have been here many many times before. Germany calling, Germany calling
On my return journey a wonderful thing happened... so wonderful that it made my year. Just when I start to convince myself humanity is losing its battle to survive. The will power and freedoms of individuals beliefs are withering and waning away... something wonderful happens.
Random Acts of kindness by stranger onto stranger
I had arrived earlyish to Dusseldorf airport. Found my favourite airport bar taken my seat when my favourite barman recognised me immediately and welcomed be back having not seen me for oh at least 2 months now. The usual was ordered and devoured whilst being serenaded by the resident piano player. Yes I like all things around me to be just perfect in every way and in every moment in time.
Goodness the time!
Off I go through to departures. Passport checked and rechecked, bag x-rayed, body parts patted down by big butch Helga (one too many times for my liking!) and off to Gate A79 to join the long snaking boarding queue.
Here I stood a while looking forward as the queue painfully moved forward. But something caught my eye, it caught everyones eye really. A sleepy slumped over her bags young lady sat, perched on the leather bar stool. Her face hidden by her arms and long hair clutching her luggage, obviously far away in lala land.
Crumbs I hope she doesn't miss her flight! I thought.
I was morealess at the back of the queue and now I was kind of fretting for the welfare of this poor young girl. What is it about me? but I always feel compelled to do something in these situations. But I cannot go upto her and awaken her because 1) This may not be her flight 2) My German is poor and she will not understand me. 3) I cannot touch this lady to wake her as she may scream and everyone will see this, causing a commotion 4) She may be dead! at which I will scream causing a bigger commotion
But then out of nowhere arrives an Angel. The Angel was with a young family. Infront of 5 people from me she had queued. She was next up to show her boarding pass and before she did she slipped back down the queue to where the young lady sat sleeping, tapped her gently and said
"Hello, Hello" to which our young girl did not move (Yes there was a brief moment of God she really is dead)
"Hello" ....
"London Stansted? "
The young lady awoke, uncurled herself, smiled and nodded at the Angel, thanking her with her smile.
We boarded the plane and as I took my seat the Angel waited beside my seat as the passengers stowed away their luggage in the overhead lockers
" You woke the lady?" I said to her
" Ah yes, yes" she said with a Spanish accent
She spoke and smiled, her smile was a beam of light to me
" You are wonderful and kind person to do it" I replied back
I wanted to hug and hug her and cry tears of joy at that moment.
" Oh no it was nothing, I hope someone will do the same for me"
" Yes they will" I said without hesitation " I definitely will do it"
What a wonderful Lady!
Angels have no philosophy but love.
