Ive lost count of the number of people who have asked me if Ive heard the Kaiser Chiefs latest song, Ruby. Yes, yes I reply again and again. Its not bad i tell them. Quite catchy. Then its a case of fingers in ears as they proceed sing their version. Arrraggh!!!
But what gets me is the name Ruby is getting disasterously too popular or should i say common now :( Its even made it into the top 10 most popular girls names lists.
Thats a far cry from my days at school when teachers would look suprised to find such a wierd name on the class register and ask me to pronounce my name 3 or 4 times before they finally got it.
Once a precious rare gemstone, now as common as muck!
Perhaps my parents should have called me Saphire or Emerald? But come to think of it, I dont think I would have survived my inner city comprehensive with such a ponsy name.
Anyway I dont know why Im grumbling, Im a Rubi as opposed to a Ruby. The I is for individuality, independance and impulse and not for intellect, indecision or impossibility.
According to Kalbalarian Philosophy (?) http://www.kabalarians.com a Rubi name analysis reveals:
" There is hardly anything you cannot do if you put your mind to it, but a driving urge leads you to one experience after another, seldom finishing what you start. As soon as a challenge is met, boredom sets in, and you yearn for another experience. This restlessness makes it difficult for you to assume responsibility and to establish stable, progressive conditions in your life"
Hmm so true, so I am impossible ? Impossible by name, impossible by nature. Isn't the world is full of impossiblities?
Nope all is not impossible. Not when you are shopping in tescos and stumble upon your own beer label!

So Bottoms Up! to all you Rubys and Rubis out there We should campaign for a national Ruby/i public holiday :)
